Stephen Lloyd's Guide to Classroom Success

Overall Philosophy: You are attending Phoenix College to attain a goal: Getting a good job and being successful in what you choose to do. Our responsibility is to give you the instruction, information and guidance needed to achieve this goal. We also hope to be able to help you develop a professional attitude and good presentation skills.

Attendance: If you miss class, you miss the information, assignments and possible quizzes given that day. I do understand that it is sometimes necessary to miss class, and if you know ahead of time and you tell me about your schedule, we can work something out. If you miss class without advance notice, it is your responsibility to ask other students or me what went that day and how best to make up missed work. If, toward the end of the term, you have missed more than 40% of the class meetings, you can still take the final, but no late work will be accepted and no extra tutoring will be scheduled.

Assignments: I expect that your work be turned in on or before due dates! Plan ahead and allow time for unforseen circumstances. In other words, try to finish your work a day or two early. Any assignment turned in one to three weeks after a specified due date automatically gets docked 10%. After three weeks, old assignments will not be accepted.

Tests and Quizzes: If I know ahead of time about an absence, you may take the test or quiz early - it is your responsibility to remind me to give you the test or quiz. If I don't know about your absence within 24 hours, it's like a late assignment: it gets docked 10% when you take it within three weeks.

The Final Exam and all assignments will be due during the last official meeting of the class before final exam week. If you want any of your work returned to you, you will show up during the scheduled final exam in final exam week to get it. After that class meeting, all papers, projects, and disks will be thrown out or will become property of the instructor.

Other: I want the class to be interactive, relaxed and fun, but please keep offensive language, comments, and jokes out of the classroom. And, absolutely no food or drink is allowed near the computers.

PS: If you ever have a problem with me, the class, another student, or just need to talk about something, e-mail me, or talk to me about it before or after class. Please do not let problems fester. I can't correct what I don't know about.
