History of The Grand
Canyon Men's Chorale
From a humble beginning of 15 men who gathered in the fall
of 1990 for the sole purpose of creating beautiful music,
GCMC has grown today to a shining display of more than 50
voices that can claim among its portfolio many reputable performances.
GCMC presents 2 major concert series per year, along with
numerous smaller engagements. Our diverse performance history
includes the National Anthem at Phoenix area sporting events,
participation at numerous Pride events, the touring of the
Nazi persecution of homosexuals at the Phoenix Public Library
and AIDS Walk Arizona.
GCMC serves as a positive representative of the Phoenix area
gay community through our entertainment, the social connections
we create, and the awareness of our pride that we create in
the community at large. The growing number of singers that
constitutes this Chorale continue to distinguish themselves
in rehearsal and performance by striving toward artistic and
personal excellence. We are proud to be building upon this
excellence with an increasing number of artistic collaborations
with groups such as: Arizona Women in Tune, Orpheus Male Chorus,
The Phoenix Boys Choir, Phoenix Bach Choir, and Reveille Gay
Men’s Chorus of Tucson.
As a member of GALA, the International Association of Gay
and Lesbian Choruses, GCMC distinguishes itself with colorful,
high energy performances at festivals held every 4 years.
In July 2004, GCMC participated in the largest GALA festival
ever in Montreal Canada, and was well received with numerous
ovations for both the diversity and passion of the music presented.
Further, GCMC is actively partnering with other GALA choruses
in the interest of developing the organization to its fullest
artistic and administrative potential. Coming off of this
positive experience in Montreal, we present “A Season
of Diversity”, our most ambitious and colorful season
yet. We look forward to joining with the entire Arizona community
in this celebration of the diverse cultural threads that weave
together the tapestry that is Arizona.
